Check in safe mode and see if you are encountering the same problem.If are facing the problem in safe mode too.. perform : Step 1 else perform : Step 2.Step 1:Open command prompt : Perform "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt without quotes. check if the issue is resolved..Step 2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Navin Elias : if you are facing the problem in safe mode..os corruption.. perform a repair install and check..Make sure you start the repair installation after you log in to your desktop.. It is called in place upgrade no need to format just install the os on top of the current installation.. it will replace the corrupt os files.
